Literature Text

Here we stumbled in the dark,

Blinded by the blackness stark.

Hands outstretched and searching still

For the light that fate did kill.

Trapped in shade and prisoners kept

Wading through the tears we wept.

Alone and lost, we cried still more

On that dark, Plutonian shore.

“Gone is light and hope and love!”

Cried we out to skies above.

But in the midst of dark and fear,

A gentle voice we all did hear.

“Look up, my friends,” it murmured soft,

“Look to the stars I gazed at oft.

For in their light, I’ll watch for you

And keep our friendship strong and true.”

We all looked up, and in the dark,

There was a lonely, lightened spark.

A single seed of fire bright

Had pierced the pall of endless night.

I felt a smile tinge my face,

And two more stars rose up apace.

Soon five, then ten, then hundreds more,

Stormed the dark and sorrowed shore.

Subtle light suffused the sky

And of the things we condemned to die

Hope and love and light so free

Returned again to that tear-filled sea.

We grasped our hands and held heads high

As we gazed and gazed at starry skies.

When’ere the dark did daunt our hope,

And at our hearts began to grope,

Upward we would turn our eyes,

And look up to the star-filled sky.
This is in memory of my friend, Caleb, who died recently.

He always loved to look at the stars. There were stories of him staying up until 4 in the morning, listening to music and just watching them. Since then, everyone that has been affected by Caleb's passing has taken to looking at the night sky, as a way to remember him and to keep him in our hearts.

...I can't really say anything...

...Can I just give you a hug?
